THE Red Ensign flew over Whitchurch Town Hall to mark the town’s celebration of Merchant Navy Day.
The flag was raised on Friday September 1, a few days before the actual celebration date on Sunday, 3 September, to allow the flag to be recognised over the whole weekend, at the suggestion of Seafarers UK, the event organisers.
The Town Council took part in the day which honours the lives and contributions of the men and women of the Merchant Navy, and it engaged the support of local veterans including Paul McGarvey.
Other former members joined town mayor councillor John Buckley, who expressed the town’s thanks to the veterans.
