A NEW food-led family pub could be opening in Tadley, opposite the site of an establishment torn down in 2011.

Plans have been submitted to West Berkshire District Council (WBDC) to develop the Three Corner Plantation, in Aldermaston Road, opposite the now Shell garage which used to be The Falcon pub.

The application submitted by Marstons Inns and Taverns would consist of a restaurant / pub area which would cater for up to 150-covers as well as a three-bedroom manager’s apartment.

As well as the main building, the applicant seeks to build a customer car park of 61 spaces, landscaping terrace, garden and children’s play area.

There would also be back-of-house staff facilities including an office, staff changing and toilet provision, plant space and a service yard to enclose recycling skips and refuse bins.

A planning statement produced by Linchfields on behalf of Marstons Inn read: “We consider that the proposed Marston’s family restaurant/public house at this location will be a valuable asset to the local community and pass-by traffic on a key vehicle route and will provide employment and training opportunities for local people.”

If the application is given the green light, it is believed that the pub will provide nearly 50 new jobs.

It is proposed that the site would be entered from the south by vehicles with pedestrian access from the east.

According to the plan, Marstons Inn had considered other sites to apply for development including Thatcham town centre, The Parade, in Tadley, and land opposite the Fox and Hounds pub in Mulfords Hill.

The planning statement adds: “As noted within the pre-application response from WBDC the business part of the proposal could be acceptable in policy terms provided a clear economic viability appraisal is provided.

“The Economic Statement that accompanies the application clearly demonstrates that the proposed development will contribute to a number of local and regional economic growth objectives through private sector investment and the creation of jobs.”

A decision is due to be made on the planning application by Wednesday, 20 June.
