A NEW site for glamourous camping or ‘glamping’ could be built near Tadley, if a planning application is approved.

Members of Basingstoke and Deane’s development control committee will discuss plans to build the site in Browning Hill Green, near Tadley tonight. (October 4)

The application, which was submitted by DGG Planning Limited is recommended for approval to build six ‘glamping’ pods/living vans, timber clad amenities/reception cabin and use of an existing barn for storage of ancillary equipment and materials.

However, the plans have been met with several objections from local residents, stating the development would impact on the rural setting.

Baughurst and Tadley North ward councillor, Cllr Robert Tate, said: “This application has generated significant public concern in the ward.

“I believe that this proposal should be objected to on grounds of change of land use, development outside settlement boundaries, change of visual amenity, highway issues and sustainability.”

The site relates to a 2.36 acres parcel of land located to the west side of Church Road, Baughurst, with the pods proposed to be located in an arc at the bottom end of the land, furthest from the entrance.

Each unit would comprise of a sleeping area and basic accommodation with an outside seating area to the front.

In the report put before the committee, it reads: “The proposal comprises a small-scale form of rural tourism for which there is an identified need and it is sited unobtrusively and sufficiently screened by surrounding natural features to minimise its landscape and visual impact.”
