A CONMAN tried to deceive an older man out of £1,000 in Kingsclere on Thursday.

Police have launched an appeal after the suspicious incident which occurred in Greenlands Road at around 2pm in which a man, unknown to the resident targeted, knocked on the door of the resident.

The conman said the resident needed his roof cleaned and it would cost £1,000 for the work to be completed.

The resident refused to hand over any money.

A description of the conman is not available. However, Hampshire Constabulary has confirmed as part of its enquiries, it is considering a potential link between the incident and another possible rogue trader in the same road on Wednesday, June 14.

In that incident, the suspected rogue trader told an 82-year-old resident she owed £900 for roofing repairs. The woman said no money was owed and the man left.

The man returned at around midday and introduced himself as working for the council, and claimed again that the woman owed £900 for roofing repairs.

However, when the woman said she needed to contact a family member, the man left.
