IN PREPARATION for this year’s Hannington Fair, one villager is looking to muck in to raise some extra cash for the event.

Each year the village showcases a range of different stalls and special attractions at the country fair, which will be held on June 25.

To help boost the finances of this year’s event, Barry Cotton has said he will go on a spring cleaning spree to raise a bit of extra cash for the fair.

Mr Cotton, who works as a sales adviser for global household appliance manufacturer Vorwerk, plans to personally clean 25 rooms in 25 hours across five days in the area.

All Mr Cotton is asking for is a minimum of £10 donation, with the money collected from each house cleaned going towards the running of the fair.

“Other people raise money by jumping out of aeroplanes or running huge distances,” said Mr Cotton. “I thought housework was a safer option, and actually hugely beneficial to those who sponsor me.

“My wife, Sarah, is super fit, and this is my way of showing that I am also capable of a super-human number of extra hours too – although I can probably only manage to do this for a week.”

He started his challenge on Tuesday this week and will clean his final room on Saturday.

Those who donate get Mr Cotton for a full hour to clean a room of their choice in their property.

All the equipment for the challenge has been donated by Vorwerk, who are one of the sponsors of the fair.

The aim of Mr Cotton’s unique fundraising endeavour is to raise more than £500 for the fair, which this year will feature a dog display and bird of prey demonstration.

Mr Cotton added: “Once I have received all of the bids and dates I will endeavour to fit everyone in to the best of my ability.”
