A NURSERY in Hook is gearing up for its busiest week of the year as it takes on the challenge of being the biggest supplier of plants to the RHS Chelsea Flower Show.

Hortus Loci, in Hound Green, Hook, will be transporting at least 20,000 plants to be used in show gardens at the prestigious event.

Household names like Chris Beardshaw, Jo Thompson and Matthew Keightley have been working closely with Hortus Loci for months to ensure they get the exact number, type, colour, size and shape of plant for their gardens with the hope of bagging a cherished gold medal or even Best in Show at the event running from May 22-26.

Hortus Loci chief executive officer Mark Straver said: “We supply many of the other flower shows in the UK throughout the year too but RHS Chelsea is the pinnacle of the season. When the gates to the show open and the public and media get to finally see these fantastic gardens filled with plants we’ve grown, it’s immensely satisfying.

“We work closely with the finest growers to locate the best plants available for garden designs of any size. It’s a reputation we are proud of and one that we work hard to maintain. Working with who we do also means the team is always keeping an eye on planting trends and helping to set new ones.”

The floral opportunities do not stop there as the Hortis Loci Chelsea Sell-off begins on Bank Holiday Monday.

Manager Sue Robertson said: “Our Chelsea sell-off event is a great opportunity to buy a plant that only a day or so beforehand could have been part of a gold medal-winning show garden.”
