THE brother of a teenage athlete who was tragically killed with her running team-mate is set to take on a special challenge to raise money for Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance.

Lee Burrows - whose sister Stacey Burrows , from Farnham, and her friend Lucy Pygott, from Hartley Wintney, were killed in a fatal road traffic collision - will take on the 1st Farnborough Half Marathon on January 22 in memory of the pair.

The pair were out running with Aldershot, Farnham and District Athletic Club, on November 8, when they were struck as they ran on a stretch of road in Queens Avenue, Aldershot.

To commemorate the runners, Mr Burrows now aims to raise as much money for the air ambulance charity as possible.

On his justgiving page, Mr Burrows said: “I will be taking part in the 1st Farnborough Half Marathon on the 22nd of January in memory of my sister Stacey and her teammate Lucy Pygott who were tragically killed whilst out running back in November 2016.

“Stacey and Lucy were well on their way to achieving greatness both as athletes and as students, two very determined and committed individuals that will be sadly missed by family and friends.

“Stacey believe d her athletic career was steering towards marathon running, I therefore see this as a tribute to the life she would have led.”

So far the fundraising page has raised nearly £6,000 - £5,000 more than Mr Burrows intended to raise.

Following the collision, the driver, a 24-year-old serving solider, was released on conditional bail having being arrested on suspicion of two offences of causing death by dangerous driving, two offences of death by careless driving through drink or drugs and the offence of drink-driving.

At the time of the collision, the family of Lucy Pygott said: “Lucy was an absolute joy to us and we fee l lucky that she has been part of our family for 17 years”.
