MORE than 6,000 people had the opportunity to look behind the scenes of Basingstoke Fire Station.
The new £6 million station held its first open day since the renovation to modernise the facility on Sunday, 10 June.
Members of the Hampshire Fire and Rescue service were on hand to give demonstrations, show families around the new station and let youngsters sit in the fire engines.
There was even a guest appearance from Fireman Sam, Paw Patrol and the fire services dogs Harley and Hoodie.
Children enjoyed having a go at using the hose reels and making sure staff at the West Ham Close facility, including station commander Keith Jones got a soaking in the dunk tank.
The open day was held in conjunction of celebrating 70 years of the fire service.
