FOOD and fundraising were on the menu as more than £11,000 was raised for the Brittle Bone Society.

Steven Edney is on a quest to raise awareness of a rare bone disease his five-year-old son Max was diagnosed with.

As part of this quest, the 49-year-old has embarked on a challenge to take on 12 events in 12 months for the charity.

The latest event took place on Saturday where a charity dinner, raffle, auction and live music was hosted at the Bolton Arms in Old Basing.

Senior staff at the pub decided to host the private charity night as part of Mr Edney’s efforts.

The event managed to raise more than £11,000 which brings Mr Edney’s running totally up to more than £26,000.

Leanne Edney, Steven’s wife, said “I am still pinching myself, this is a massive amount of money to raise in one event. Thank you to the team at the Bolton Arms and all our friends who supported this event.”

Guests at the event, which included mayor and mayoress of Basingstoke and Deane, Councillors Paul Frankum and Jane Frankum, were invited to enjoy a three-course meal for 61 people, a raffle, silent auction, live auction and live music by Chris Baker.

Mr Edney added: “It was a brilliant night, such fun whilst raising so much money to help other people. We are thrilled, delighted and very thankful to everyone who got involved.”

The Bolton Arms is also no stranger to fundraising, having been the venue for a number of different events.

Mr Keer said: “We were honoured to host the event for the Brittle Bone Society and for Max. Over the last 10 years we have now raised £330,000 for local charities and good causes at the Bolton Arms.”

With just two months left of his epic challenge, Mr Edney next tackles a 20km Tough Mudder and a Strictly Come Dancing completion on the same day on Saturday, 28 April, then a Sausage Sizzle at Bunnings Basingstoke over the Bank Holiday weekend of May 5 to May 7, with things finishing off on Mr Edney’s 50th birthday when he takes on the Three Peaks Challenge on June 16 and 17.
