FOUR boys from Basingstoke are getting ready to lace up their boots at one of the biggest international football tournaments - but a little help is needed to get them there.

The budding footballers have been selected to take part in the Gothia Cup, an international football tournament in Sweden with teams taking part from all around the world in July.

Harvey Hopley and Luke Howard, both from Popley, Lewis Slade, from South View, and Sonny Parks, from South Ham, all 11, have been selected to play in the under 11s category for the South East England team at the prestigious football tournament.

Now, their parents are looking for help to get the young football stars over to Sweden with a JustGiving page set up to raise £3,500.

All of the four play for academies and teams locally and they will soon be beginning their training together.

Samm Bowyer, Harvey’s mother, said: “It’s a massive honour for all of them, and we are really excited.

“We’ve got a countdown going to the event, and he is really looking forward to this exciting opportunity to play internationally with so many different teams and players.

“I’m really proud of all the boys for being selected, it really is a once in a lifetime event, and it’s amazing that they will be going. It will be quite intense but it should be a really good experience.

“We are really looking forward to it and can’t wait to get out there.”

The team of 12 will be making the journey to Gothenburg where around 1,700 teams from 80 nations will take part in the tournament, with a total of 4,500 games being played on 110 fields over the week-long contest.
