TWO struggling doctors’ surgeries are being called to answer concerns of residents, councillors and a local MP.
As previously reported by the Gazette, there has been staffing concerns at the Beggarwood surgery, and now issues are being raised over staff morale at the Rooksdown surgery which are both run by Cedar Medical.
Now Basingstoke’s MP Maria Miller, along with respective ward councillors Cllr Terri Reid and Cllr Simon Bound have called for an emergency meeting with Basingstoke's NHS Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) to get answers to residents growing concerns about the quality of services available.
Mrs Miller has been raising the concerns of residents for more than three years direct with the Department of Health, NHS England and the local CCG. But the situation continues to deteriorate.
She said: “Local residents are now concerned about the reported departure of GPs employed at both practices as a result of a fundamental disagreement about the way in which the surgeries are being managed.
“Their concern has been growing over the past three years. The Clinical Commissioning Group has directly intervened to give assurances about the quality of medical care and the systems in place but there remains unacceptable level of concern amongst local residents about the service provided by Beggarwood and Rooksdown GP Surgery in practice.”
Mrs Miller added: “The contract this GP group (has with NHS England dates back to 2004 and has limitations to the interventions available to commissioners, despite the very considerable concerns of residents and Care Quality Commission.”
A spokeswomen from the CCG said they are working closely with both practices to address the staffing issues.
