A BRAVE victim of a sexual assault has spoken of her ordeal after being totally unaware of what had happened to her.

The woman, whose identity has been protected for legal reasons, was one of Romeo Cummins’ victims.

Cummins, 46, of Fountains Close, Popley, was sentenced to 13 years and six months in prison after admitting sexual offences against five women.

During sentencing at Winchester Crown Court, the court heard that officers examined his phone, finding more than 100 videos which contained footage of sexual offences, with it being clear from the footage that the women may not have known they had been sexually assaulted.

Talking to Hampshire Constabulary, the victim said: “I only found out through a police officer coming to my address showing me a photo which came from a video on a mobile phone.

“I have no recollection.

“I must have gone through every emotion that you can possibly go through in the space of 10 minutes.

“It is still taking time to come to terms with it now.”

In the video posted on Hampshire Constabulary’s Facebook page, the woman also praised the support she received from officers and is urging others to come forward.

She added: “I was known to the police for a lot of different reasons but they couldn’t have been more supportive and more reassuring and they helped me confront it head on.

“If there is a problem you must come forward, you must go and see the police – they are there to help you.

“Anybody in that situation may feel a bit of distrust, but I can’t begin to explain how grateful I am.”

Last week detective constable Paul Jarrett, from Aldershot CID, said: “Romeo Cummins preyed upon vulnerable females convincing them he had their best interests at heart.

“Nothing could have been further from the truth, with him abusing their trust to sexually assault and film what he had done to them, whilst they were in an unconscious state.

“Due to the bravery of his victims, they were able to endure the traumatic experience of being told and shown what he had done to them. Their courage has stopped him from continuing his serial sexual abuse and prevented him from doing this to others.”

Officers are urging anyone who wishes to report a rape or sexual assault to call 101 and talk to the force’s trained officers.
