A SCOUT group in Basingstoke will parade through the Top of The Town and Eastrop this weekend to mark St George’s Day.

The Basingstoke East District Scouts will be holding a St George’s Day Parade at the Top of The Town from 1.30pm this Sunday.

The procession will then make its way across New Road and down Eastrop Lane to St Mary’s Church, in Goat Lane, Eastrop, where a special service will start at 2pm.

During the service the County Commissioner for Scouting Hampshire, Adam Jollans, will present the medal for Meritorious Conduct to Jacob Tate – a Scout from 1st Basingstoke (Trinity Methodist) Scout Group and Scouts will be able to watch a special video message from Scout ambassador for Hampshire, James Ketchell.

Along with Hampshire Scout leader Ashley Wilson, Mr Ketchell is about to start his latest adventure which will see the pair row 3,600 miles across the Indian Ocean.

During the procession, Scouts will be collecting funds for the construction of a new water well to provide clean drinking for people living in villages in Masindi, Uganda.
