TRIBUTES have been paid to a teenager who died after he was in collision with a taxi early on New Year’s Day.

Kaliam Anthony Fearon, 19, was walking along the A30 Winchester Road, near Down Grange Farm, at around 12.30am, when he was struck by a Skoda Octavia taxi.

The teenager suffered fatal injuries and was taken to Basingstoke hospital, where he was pronounced dead. A post-mortem examination carried out on Monday revealed the cause of death to be head injuries.

Flowers and tributes have been left at the roadside in memory of the Basingstoke teenager.

One message, attached to a white bunny rabbit toy, read: “We are thinking of you always. God bless you beautiful boy.”

Tributes have also been left on the teenager’s Facebook profile. Rob Stewart wrote: “The memories I have of him will always be cherished, and love to all his loved ones he has left behind.”

The taxi driver, a man aged in his 30s and also from Basingstoke, was shaken but not seriously injured in the crash.

An inquest has been opened and adjourned by North East Hampshire coroner Andrew Bradley until Wednesday, March 25 at Basingstoke Magistrates’ Court.

The police are continuing to appeal for information on the crash, which led to the closure of Winchester Road until around 5am on New Year’s Day.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, at Eastleigh police station, on 101, quoting Operation Cyane.
