A NETBALL tournament delivered a great result for a charity.

Ten teams took part in the Mixed Sex Netball Versatility Tournament, which involved teams of men and women playing in a round-robin contest.

The tournament was organised by Ark Cancer Centre Charity supporters Dani Taylor and her mum Debbie McLatch with support from local businesses.

Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council supported the event by providing use of the netball courts at Russell Howard Netball Centre, in South Ham.

After the group matches and semi-finals, the final saw Pitch Slaps beat the Lamb Brooks Hotshots to claim the winners’ trophy and medals.

Entry fees and money from a raffle and bake sale meant £725 was raised for the charity, which is helping to fund a £5m new NHS cancer treatment centre.

Dani, who is a family law solicitor at Paris Smith Solicitors, in Winchester, said: “Thank you to everyone who took part in, and supported, the netball tournament, including the volunteers who helped with the catering. It may have been a bit wet and cold on the day but everyone enjoyed themselves, and there was a great end result for Ark.”

Mark Jones, director of fundraising and communications at Ark Cancer Centre Charity, said: “Thanks so much to Dani and Debbie for organising this successful fundraising event, and it was great to see such good support from those involved on and off the courts.”

Largely being funded by Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (HHFT), plans are progressing to locate the new cancer treatment centre on the existing Basingstoke hospital site.
