PUPILS, parents and teachers of Whitchurch Primary School came together on Saturday, 21 April to prepare a new allotment area at the school.

The day was organised by the Friends of Whitchurch Primary School (FOWPS), to engage pupils and parents in caring for the school grounds.

Over 40 volunteers spent the day clearing and digging a space for planting.

Victoria Rampton, chair of FOWPS, said: “We were keen to see the outdoor space near the entrance to the school put to better use. Across the school, pupils are focusing on topics involving planting and growing and we wanted them to have a suitable space to do this in. We are delighted with the response from the school community and appreciate all the help and enthusiasm that went into preparing the space on Saturday.”

The compost for the project was donated by nearby Laverstoke Park Farm. Year 2 pupils will be planting vegetables in the new space in the coming weeks as part of their learning.
