TEENAGERS are being invited to get shipshape as part of a campaign.

TS Mary Rose Basingstoke and Deane Sea Cadets is encouraging young people aged between 12 and17 years to bring a friend and come aboard to enjoy activities both ashore and on the water.

The group, which meet at Sycamore Halls, Winklebury on Monday and Friday evenings, is welcoming new recruits as part of the national #NeverOrdinary campaign.

Visitors can have a go at sailing, power boating, kayaking, rowing and windsurfing and for those who want a challenge, adventure training is also popular and includes learning how to pitch a tent, cook and survive outdoors.

Darren Rust, commanding officer, said: “Sea Cadets offers so many opportunities. It’s a great place to make new friends, have fun and learn new skills.

“In Basingstoke we are one of the few organisations which can get young people out onto the water to enjoy a range of activities.

“Also we are linked to the Mary Rose Trust at Portsmouth, meaning we are invited to support their events from time to time.”

Juniors aged between 10 to 12 years old are welcome too.
