A NEW campaign has been launched to revitalise and regenerate town centres, including Hook.

Ranil Jayawardena, MP for North East Hampshire, has set up a scheme to freshen up Fleet, Hook and Yateley centres.

Mr Jayawardena believes all three places have great potential, be that as shopping destinations or, with the right infrastructure improvements, as places for young people to get their foot on the housing ladder.

The MP has met with councillors from all three centres who are all in agreement that the move and push for services to be improved in the areas is a good idea Mr Jayawardena will be raising this with Hart District Council personally and he is also calling on residents for their help.

The MP, said: “We are lucky to live in a prosperous part of the country where almost everyone who wants a job has one.

“Looking to some of our local, district and town centres, however, it is clear to see that Fleet, Yateley and Hook are all in real need of revitalisation and regeneration.

“I’ve been spending time speaking to local councillors about this and taking a look at the work that needs to be done.”

Mr Jayawardena is urging residents to sign up to his new ‘revitalise and regenerate’ petition to show their support for the scheme and to encourage Hart District Council that residents in these areas are behind the plans to improve and enhance the local area and the economy.

He added: “If you want smart new shops, some new flats for local young people to buy above them and better car parking, then act now.

“By doing this, I can show Hart District Council that local people really do care about their area and want to regenerate ‘brownfield’ land for new retail and residential development that will benefit the local economy and the local community.”
