GRITTERS could head out on Hampshire's roads this evening as temperatures are set to plunge.
The Met Office says it will drop to 3C overnight in Basingstoke and Andover, while some areas of the county the forecast is for temperatures of 1C.
Hampshire County Council (HCC) has confirmed that gritters are ready to head out on its "priority" routes.
A statement from HCC read: "Another cold night ahead.
"Our crews are ready to treat all of our northern, southern, and central priority one routes from 8pm.
"Road surface temperatures falling close to or below zero by the end of the night with hoar frost forming in north and central domains."
The Met Office's weather forecast for Hampshire says: "Locally frosty, especially with clear spells in south.
"Cloud will increase later with scattered showers reaching western counties around dawn.
"Feeling cold in the westerly breeze. Minimum temperature 0C."
