A HOBBYIST photographer and dressmaker has completed a four-year-long project to make a unique wedding dress completely out of flowers.

Laura Donohoe, from Beggarwood, said she set out to make the couture wedding dress to bring some more colour into the world.

After finishing a diploma in fashion from Basingstoke College of Technology, Laura embarked on the project to continue her love of photography and flowers.

Now, she has had the dress modelled and the 24-year-old said it was emotional to see the final item brought to life.

As a hobbyist photographer in her spare time, she also made sure to take some photographs to show off her handiwork.

She said: “It was absolutely amazing to see the dress on a real model. It was a completely surreal feeling. There were moments that I thought I would give up on the project, but I carried on and it is the best feeling ever to see it being modelled.

“It took four years to make but to see it on the model makes it all feel worth it.”

The dress is made out of thousands of peonies, which is Laura’s favourite flower.

The flowers on the dress are not real, but were specially ordered for the making dress.

However, they are not all brought in as Laura made her fair share of the flowers for the dress.

Laura added: “A lot of people really like flowers that are more commonplace, like roses, but my favourite flowers are peonies.

“They are unique and a bit more colourful. That’s the whole point of this exercise was to bring some positivity into the world and to make some art.”

One of the driving factors that inspired this work of art was to help Laura with her depression.

Laura added: “I’ve had depression for a while now, and this really helps in terms of bringing some positivity and happiness, as opposed to negativity. I think that it is really nice to bring to colour and art into the world.”

The dress was modelled by Holly Jade Peers and the hair and make-up done by Totally Flawless.
