HAMPSHIRE police has warned residents to expect armed officers on the county’s streets after the UK terror threat level moved to 'critical'.

In a statement released by Hampshire Constabulary, the force confirmed additional police officers - including armed officers - would be out in busy locations across the county such as at train stations, shopping centres and other crowded places tonight and tomorrow.

It added: "We urge the public to be vigilant and to report any suspicious activity to the police by calling the confidential anti-Terrorist Hotline on 0800 789321 or in an emergency by dialling 999."

The move comes after a bomb exploded on the Parsons Green Tube yesterday.

Most of the 29 people injured in the attack, which Islamic State has claimed responsibility for, in London suffered flash burns from the device.

Hampshire Police Federation's chair John Apter warned there were "no extra officers".

He posted: "The few we have left will be working extended shifts and have their rest days cancelled."
