THE Oakley Village Show 2017 has been declared a success, with 1,500 people attending the event.

This year’s event on Saturday August 12, featured an array of activities and attractions including craft and flower contests and cake making competitions, with separate adult and child categories, and a Lego building challenge just for younger visitors.

One of the other events that took place was knitting “twiddlemuff ” garments that are specifically designed to help those with dementia, with the proceeds made from sales going to the Oakley Memory Club.

Eve Askew, a member of the organising committee, said: “It was very good, we all had a lovely day. The stalls were all doing very well and everyone was having fun, and the weather held out for us as well, which always makes the day more enjoyable.

We had some excellent entertainment for the Basingstoke Rock Choir as well as the Basingstoke Tappers and the John Glasscock Jazz Band.”

The chief executive of Sebastian’s Trust, Jane Gates, presented Oakley and Deane Parish Council with a certificate of thanks for all its fundraising work for the charity while there was also a display of cars and motorbikes for driving enthusiasts to enjoy.

Eve added: “Lots of people put in a lot of hours to make this event as good as it was, and it was great to see residents come out and support the event.”
