MEMBERS of Basingstoke-based cancer support charities the Pink Place and Blue Space have raised thousands of pounds taking to the air in a sponsored skydive.

The team of eleven went to Old Sarum Hill in Salisbury on May 6, where they leapt from the plane at 10,000 feet to raise funds for the Pink Place and Blue Space.

In total, the team of jumpers raised more than £8,800 to help support the charity, with money still being donated, and there are plans to make this an annual event.

The group of divers were all people who had made use of the cancer support charity’s services before, including 71-year-old Shelagh Minshall, who had used the Pink Place after receiving treatment in 2014.

She said: “I am absolutely fine now, and in rude good health I hope. Following my treatment, I attended the Pink Place and received an amazing, welcoming reception from all those incredible volunteers.”

Natasha Walsh, the charity’s administrator, was one of the jumpers on the day. Natasha said: “We all thoroughly enjoyed jumping on the day and have raised a whopping £8,800 with money still coming in. Next year, I will be planning a 15,000ft skydive and I already have people wanting to sign up.”

They are currently looking for participants for next year’s charity skydive, this time taking place at a higher altitude of 15,000ft. If you would like to sign up for the event to skydive on behalf of the Pink Place and Blue Space, then you can get in contact with Natasha either via email on pinkplaceinfo@gmail.com or by telephone on 07899 970 841.
