Hampshire is set for a shooting star show this weekend
HUNDREDS of shooting stars will cross the sky in the Lyrid meteor shower.
It is estimated that around ten to 15 meteors will be flying across the skies at the peak just before dawn on Saturday April 22, on a moonless night.
Experts have said star gazers should also be able to see the lunar crescent and the planet Venus shining together in the eastern pre-dawn and dawn sky.
The Lyrids are known for uncommon surges that can sometimes bring the rate up to 100 per hour.
The shower will start of Sunday and is estimated to last until April 25.
Hampshire spots that are recommended for star gazing include Butser Hill at Queen Elizabeth Country Park and the car park at Winchester Science Centre and Planetarium.
