POLICE are appealing for information after a man was assaulted in Basingstoke on Friday night.

The 32-year-old victim was walking alone along Lower Brook Street at 11:10pm when he was approached by a man who punched and kicked him.

The attacker then stole his wallet before leaving the scene. The victim suffered facial and shoulder injuries and was taken to Basingstoke Hospital for treatment.

The suspect was described as being tall and of a thin build. He was wearing tight blue jeans, a black jacket with a thick, grey hood and a red beanie hat.

Police officers investigating the incident would like to speak to anyone who may have seen a man matching this description in the area at that time or may have seen anything suspicious.
