STAFF from a Rooksdown school donned their best outfits to take part in a special fundraising pantomime.

Across last weekend, teachers and members of Saxon Wood School, in Barron Place, took to the stage to perform a unique rendition of ‘Snow White and the Saxon-Wooders’ to raise money for the specialist school.

Led by staff members Kelly Smith and Mark Halls, more than 300 people watched the performance at the Apollo Theatre.

Jo Wiles took the lead role of Snow White, whilst the evil queen was portrayed by Mr Halls – who also wrote the script.

The dwarves were made up of Kelly, Lisa Graham, Lisa Davey, Wendy Vickery, Cheryl Ballard, Dianne Wright and Karen Harrison with Sam Ashwell as Prince Charming, Amy Wheeler as Buttons and Laura Burling as the narrator.

To open the show, an array of dance routines from Basingstoke Academy of Dance were enjoyed.

Ex-head teacher, Lynne Smythe said: “I thought it would be good but it was amazing.”

Chris Howard MBE, chair of the governors, said: “An amazing show, you were brilliant. We were still laughing on the way home.”

Chair of Saxon Wood Association, Francis Tozer, added: “What a magnificent show you put on. It was so professional.”

The show was raising money for the school, which looks after children with physical disabilities based in Basingstoke.

It has currently raised an impressive £2,400. The money will be used on future projects at the school and the purchase of specialist equipment for the pupils.

Head teacher Richard Parratt said: “I never cease to be amazed at the talents of my staff, their commitment to the school and their determination to give the children a wonderful time. Thank you to all the families, volunteers and people in the local community for their generosity in supporting such a worthy cause.”
