A CHINEHAM school will work with Hampshire Constabulary in a bid to stop a rising number of complaints about parking.

Four Lanes Junior School and Infant School, in Hanmore Road, Chineham, is set for talks with representatives from the police after more complaints were forwarded to Hampshire Constabulary about the difficulties parking in the area around peak school times.

In January’s monthly update from the police, it was revealed that parking in and around the school was the most common complaint for residents and locals.

During drop off and pick up times at the school, residents have struggled to park in their own spots, whilst parents have been unable to pick their children up.

Headteacher of Four Lanes Junior School Corinne Martinez and Mrs Jacqueline Mallaby from the Infants School, said: “Unfortunately congestion is a big problem in the local area and despite our best efforts there continues to be an element of inconsiderate parking that both impacts on our neighbours and causes us great concern for the safety of our children.

“Both the junior and infant schools regularly put reminders in newsletters and other school communications.

“We are also working closely with our local PCSO on a number of initiatives in the future to discourage drivers from acting in a manner that puts our children at risk and causes distress to local residents.”

In the report published by the police, it said it hoped to work with Four Lanes School and local residents to see what can be done to improve the situation.

If any initiatives are successful, they could potentially be rolled out in other areas in the borough.

In newsletters issued to parents at the school in November, it said the school had received “phone calls from members of the community complaining about inconsiderate parking of cars in front of driveways.”

It urged parents to park in the village hall or Chineham Arms car park, if possible, and walk the children to school as it “would help improve relationships with neighbours and provide a safer route for children.”
