MORE prospective residents in Basingstoke have faced delays moving into the Persimmon Homes property of Sherborne Fields.

As featured recently on the front page of the Gazette, potential new homeowners have been left disappointed as they face continual delays in the completion of their homes.

Mandy Barker, from Basingstoke, and her husband and 10-month-old daughter, have been living in her parent’s two-bedroom home while the work remains to be completed.

The first-time buyers reserved their home in August 2016, with the original finishing and moving in date of the property being November.

However, as the date of completion neared, Persimmon sent the Barker family a letter explaining that the date would have to be put back to December 23. Then, as the family prepared to move in to their new home, they received another letter saying that delays had meant that the property would not be ready until March.

The house-building company cited the same reasons as mentioned in the previous article, that there had been a change in the National House Building Council waterproofing code had meant that additional work was required.

However, the change was made in 2015, a year before the family reserved the house. Mrs Barker said: “It’s a massive inconvenience for us all, including my parents. It is a real squeeze to get us all in there, it is only a two-bedroom bungalow.”

“We’ve only ever had letters from Persimmon, I feel like that there needs to be more of a human element in how to get hold of them, one of our main problems has been a lack of communication.”

A spokesperson for Persimmon Homes Thames Valley said: “We are in touch with the customer and currently discussing options and revised dates.”
