SKY NEWS visited Basingstoke today to get people’s reactions to the Prime Minister Theresa May’s speech about her plans for Brexit.

Residents and business owners, including The Gazette’s Tim Birkbeck, came together to give their views on what Theresa May said in her talk on Brexit.

The broadcaster decided to air from the Tea Bar, in the Top of The Town, as part of its coverage on Mrs May’s speech, after the borough voted 52 percent to 48 per cent in favour of leaving the European Union last June – a percentage split which mirrored that of the entire UK.

In Mrs May’s speech she announced the UK’s priorities in regards to leaving the European Union. She said that the UK “cannot possibly remain within the European single market because it would mean “not leaving the EU at all.”

The speech also announced that Parliament would be able to vote on the deal made between the EU and the UK.

There will be a further broadcast of another debate from the Milestones Museum in Basingstoke, with a panel of two Remain voters and two Leave voters from Basingstoke.

It will be chaired by Michelle Clifford, who presented this afternoon’s live broadcast hosted at the modern tearoom.

The panel will air on Sky News at 8pm tonight.
