A BASINGSTOKE dentist swapped teeth for telly as he appeared with dance sensations Diversity on ITV this New Year’s Day.

Dr Milad Shadrooh, now more commonly known as The Singing Dentist, joined a team of dentists from across the south to take part in a dance battle on primetime television show ‘Diversity Presents Steal the Show’.

The Chequers Dental Surgery dentist and his troop took on a team of firefighters in the battle, eventually running out winners and winning a special Blades Aerobic Experience daytrip.

Dr Milad soared to fame last year after his videos, which parody music tracks with lyrics about oral healthcare, went viral on social platforms such as The Lad Bible.

But after reading an article about Dr Milad’s performances in charity fundraiser Southampton Does Strictly, members of Diversity were keen to invite the dentist and a team of his colleagues to compete on the show.

“The Diversity guys are just so nice, so down to Earth and humble,” Dr Milad told The Gazette.

“They just have these really good vibes but I think that’s why they dance so well – they’re talented but at the end of the day just good guys.

“I tapped into a little of my experience on Southampton Does Strictly, but to be honest we were trained up beforehand and had our own custom wardrobes – it was a good experience.”

The show aired on ITV on January 1 at 8pm and can still be viewed on the channel’s catch-up service.

The dentists were joined by reality star Honey G, who ‘rapped’ during a routine involving MC Hammer’s famous tune U Can’t Touch This.

Although filming and performing was fun for Dr Milad, ultimately his appearance was a way to continue his work in promoting the positive side of dentistry.

Dr Milad said: “It’s great we did this family-fun show, but at the end of the day it has shown dentists in a fun light.

“Dentists are normally thought of as these people who torture those who are sat in their chairs, but that’s not what we’re about.

“The parody songs, the videos I post online and the appearances on TV are all to make sure we show how important talking about oral hygiene and teeth is.”
