STAFF at an Overton nursery were deemed “wonderful role models for children” in a glowing Ofsted report where it received outstanding in all areas.
Overton Playgroup, based at The Community Centre on Winchester Street, was inspected by the governmental body on Tuesday, October 18.
The playgroup received a ‘Good’ rating at its previous inspection three years ago. In “effectiveness of the leadership and management” the inspector found the manager provided “strong leadership”.
The report said: “She is supported by a team of highly experienced, well-qualified, dedicated staff and an enthusiastic new parent committee.” In “quality of teaching, learning and assessment” the inspector highly praised the playgroup’s staff.
The report stated: “Staff nurture children’s understanding, for instance, as they use liquids, natural materials and garden vegetables to investigate water flow and pressure, gravity and weight.”
It continued its commendation in “personal development, behaviour and welfare”. The report said: “Children choose new and different healthy foods and enthusiastically help to prepare and clear away snacks with great skill.
“Children greatly enjoy the superb opportunities to develop their physical skills outdoors.” The inspector found the nursery’s children to be “extremely confident and selfassured”.
The report concluded: “Children are exceptionally well prepared for school.” Overton Playgroup, which started in 1974, is managed by a committee of parents.
Amanda Igo, playgroup leader, said: “We’re thrilled that Ofsted has rated us as ‘outstanding’ across all areas inspected. We’re lucky to have such a wonderful setting.”
