A FRUSTRATED shop owner is calling for people who do not clear up their dog’s waste to be named and shamed.

Frederick Gibson who runs Worting Road Newsagents, in Downsland Parade, Brookvale believes a firm hand is needed to enforce fines on dog owners who do not clean up after their canine companion.

Mr Gibson, who has run the newsagent for the last six years, has previously taken it open himself to clear up the waste, but has become so frustrated that he believes dishonest dog owners should be made accountable.

“The waste has been mainly along the private road that leads to Townsend Close and lies between my shop and the dentist,” said the 57-year-old.

“As this is a road used by many elderly customers I have taken it upon myself to clean as often as is possible as the waster places several of our community at great health risks.”

Mr Gibson claims this has been an issue for a number of years, despite the introduction of new waste bins near his shop and the introduction of Community Safety Patrol Officer (CSPO).

The shop owner even claims there have been incidents where he has found human waste.

“There have been two occasions where I have found what I believe to be human waste outside my backdoor,” added Mr Gibson.

“Which means they have had to come through the gate to get there, I just don’t understand what would possess someone to do such a thing.”

Brookvale and Kings Furlong ward councillor, Cllr Mike Westbrook said as a whole Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council has introduced steps to clear up dog fouling.

Cllr Westbrook said: “We have had similar issues in the ward before and provisions were put in place with CSPOs on more patrols to act as a deterrent.

“If any of our residents have an issue I urge them to report it. We will help as best as we can.”
