FUNDRAISERS took to dizzying heights in a bid to raise money to pay for vital hospital equipment.

Adrenaline junkies took to the roof of Basingstoke hospital, in Aldermaston Road, and battled the elements as part of North Hampshire Medical Fund’s charity abseil.

The popular event saw 25 fundraisers brave the weather and take on the 75ft building last Saturday, with many people taking on the challenge in fancy dress.

“There was a couple of people who really got into the spirit of the day by doing the challenge in some great costumes,” said fundraising assistant for the North Hampshire Medical Fund, Molly Hawkins.

“We even had Simon from the hospital radio climbing down the wall in a chicken suit.”

Last year the event raised more than £11,000 and the charity is hoping they can beat that target this year, with the total figure still being added up.

One of the fundraisers, Basingstoke’s resident spiderman, Michael Kinchington said it was a really exhilarating experience.

“After I gotto the ground I wanted to go straight back up and do it again,” said the 36-year-old.

“I thought as I am going to be climbing down a wall I thought spiderman was a very fitting character to be dressed up as.”

He added: “I would do it again in a heartbeat, it was such a great experience and all for a good cause.”

All the money raised from the abseil will go towards funding specialist equipment for the hospital which it could not otherwise afford.
