BASINGSTOKE Wolverines Allstar Cheerleading Squad are on the lookout for two new trustees after announcing they have sealed their status as a registered charity.

The group, which currently trains three times a week at Cranbourne Business and Enterprise College, in Wessex Close, are looking to drive their club and charitable work forward over the coming season.

The aim of the charity is to provide training facilities for the recreation and leisure time of young people aged between five and 25.

Ian Stanford, a trustee at the club, said: "We are looking to raise funds so we can have our own premises, our own place we can call home.

"As a registered charity we can now also offer subsidised membership to those taking part who might not be able to afford it.

"We really are looking for two people to come in and help us push this charity forward by raising funds and awareness of what we do."

The organisation offers two types of clubs to its members - a competition squad and a non-competitive development squad.

At present the group has 43 cheerleading members who compete in five different competition squads of varying ages.

They are holding try-outs this Monday to try and bring in some new faces to their squads before the season kicks off again in September.

Mr Stanford continued: "Cheerleading is just another form of gymnastics.

"The athletes that have joined make new friends and increase their fitness and wellbeing. It's about getting the athletes who want to learn this new skill and giving them an opportunity.

"The training aspect and competing can be tough, but ultimately all the athletes really love it."
