A GOOD Samaritan has helped a family from Overton after a mobile was lost on a trip in Boston.

Char Wild, who lives in Highfields with partner Andy Goodyear and three children Keira, Kaitlyn and Kyla, was attending a Cloves Syndrome Conference at Boston Children’s Hospital with the family as eight-year-old Keira has the condition.

Keira was diagnosed with Cloves Syndrome, a rare syndrome with complex vascular anomalies, at Christmas in 2013, and the trip to the American conference was to give the family an opportunity to meet other people with the condition and to find out about different treatments.

But disaster struck when 27-year-old Ms Wild realised her phone had gone missing.

“I honestly believed that the phone had been taken by a beggar without me realising as we passed so many when walking around,” Ms Wild told The Gazette.

“Before we flew out we created a secret page on Facebook called Keira’s Journey to Boston for family members and close friends to be in so they can follow our journey and see how we got on at the conference – not having a phone I couldn’t post updates or keep in contact with family.”

Unaware to Ms Wild, her phone was picked up by a benevolent Mexican called Luis Eduardo who managed to post on her Facebook wall: “I’m not Char Wild. I found her phone in the front of Quincy Market in Boston and I would like to return her phone. Thanks for your help.”

Friends and family then commented on the post to explain Ms Wild’s predicament and contact between her and Mr Eduardo was made to arrange for the phone’s return.

“I still can’t believe how it all happened,” Ms Wild added.

“Back home I wouldn’t have got my phone and I thought the same whilst here - but it just proves there are still genuine human beings out there.

“I never thought we would get to America, it’s been a tough two years and everyone has worked so hard to get us here.

“When people come together you can make miracles happen and we couldn’t be more grateful for everybody’s help.”

“Luis is a true gentleman - we need a lot more people like him in the world.”
