A MOTORCYCLIST who fractured his arm after colliding with a bus has thanked the people who helped save him.

Jay Gibson, 20, was riding down Hackwood Road and hit a bus on Wednesday, June 1.

As he collided with the vehicle, he fell unconscious before people on the bus gathered to help the youngster and call for an ambulance.

Paramedics and Hampshire police arrived and according to Mr Gibson, a paramedic who treated him said he was “lucky to be alive”.

Mr Gibson was taken to Basingstoke hospital but his condition was described by the ambulance service as not life-threatening.

Mr Gibson, from Alton, said: “I want to say thank you to everyone who helped me out but I don’t remember seeing anyone after I collided with the bus.

“I remember getting up and seeing a paramedic and just remembering that I nearly went underneath a bus.

“I was trying to turn right and I just didn’t see him coming.”

Mr Gibson was later discharged from hospital with his arm bandaged up and is due an appointment to see a hand specialist.

Like most cyclists, he was wearing a camera on his helmet.

“In a weird way, I’m looking forward to seeing what the footage looks like and what people think of it,” Mr Gibson said.

“I can’t say thank you enough though to the paramedics and the people who supported me after the accident.

“I feel so sorry for the bus driver and for all of those who had to witness the crash.

“I want them to know how thankful I am and that I am okay now.”
