A TUMBLE dryer caught fire causing flames to spread onto neighbouring properties.
Firefighters from Basingstoke were called to the incident around 11.40am, when they were alerted to a shed fire in Middleton Gardens, Oakridge.
When firefighters arrived, the blaze had spread onto the roofs of the garages of properties adjacent to the shed.
An extra two appliances were called to help extinguish the flames.
A spokesman for the fire service said: “We were alerted to the call by the residents when they noticed their tumble dryer in their shed had caught alight.
“By the time we arrived on the scene the flames were a lot larger than expected, so needed further assistance.”
There were no injuries reported, but substantial damage was caused to the garages and the shed.
It took apporximately 16 firefighters just over an hour to deal with the blaze.
