TRIBUTES have been paid to a motorcyclist who died in a crash in Basingstoke on Sunday, November 1.

Jamie Andrew Hill, of Sycamore Way, Winklebury, Basingstoke was pronounced dead following the crash between the motorcycle and a white Nissan car, at the junction of Oakridge Road and Sherborne Road, at around 2.20pm.

The two people in the Nissan were not injured.

Police closed the road, in Oakridge, following the accident to examine the scene for potential evidence.

Paying tribute to 25-year-old Jamie, his friend Dexter Skipp described him as “a really loyal friend”.

The 26-year-old PE teacher, who has known Jamie since he was 14-years-old, having grown up with him in the Winklebury area of Basingstoke, added: “He loved motorbikes. That’s all he could talk about. We rode motorcycles and used to go out together and ride. There were about five or six of us.”

He added: “He was cheeky. He could be really annoying and wound you up but got away with it. He was completely harmless. He would be the first person to help you out if you were ever in a sticky situation. He was a really loyal friend.”

Jamie, a former Fort Hill Community School pupil, was working in a warehouse and lived with his parents.

He had two younger brothers.

Dexter, who now lives in Camberley, said he saw Jamie around two weeks before his death.

Referring to hearing the news about the fatal crash, he said: “I was completely in shock. It was the last phone call I expected to get.”

Another friend of Jamie’s has set up a memorial fund to help his family cover the funeral costs.

Sophie Preston grew up with Jamie and knew his family well having lived opposite them in Winklebury.

She said: “I decided to start some fundraising for the family to alleviate the stress on them at this time.”

Sophie described Jamie as “a lovely young man, taken from his family too soon, in far too tragic circumstances.”

She added: “We cannot imagine what his family are going through and wish to help in anyway that we can.

“I knew Jamie and his family personally as a close neighbour since we were both little and we attended the same school.

“We have grown up seeing each other often, he will be missed greatly.”
