A BASINGSTOKE care home has been told it needs to improve following an inspection.

The Care Quality Commission visited Ashcombe House, in Worting Road, on May 19 and 28, and in a report graded it as “requires improvement” overall.

Three areas inspected were given this grade, whilst two were judged to be “good”.

The home, run by Barchester Healthcare Homes Limited, provides nursing and residential care for up to 33 older people with a range of needs, including dementia, as well as short-term stays for respite and post-operative care.

There was no registered manager at the time of inspection.

The report said: “People told us whilst they felt safe they were having to wait long times to receive assistance.” It added: “People told us their care was provided to a good standard. Care staff demonstrated they had taken time to know the people they supported.”

Inspectors said residents were treated with respect and dignity.

The provider was told to maintain records better and ensure there is enough staff to meet demands.

No enforcement action was taken, but the CQC asked for an action report.
