A SCHOOL in Odiham has received support from a nuclear weapons company.

Robert May’s School, in West Street, Odiham, has been handed a £200 donation from the charity committee at AWE, the company that runs a nuclear facility at Aldermaston.

The donation is for the school’s Evolution F1 team that will compete at the world finals of the F1 in Schools competition in Singapore this year.

Paul Tomlinson, from AWE, said: “AWE is committed to supporting local schools and a particular focus for us is the promotion of science, technology, engineering and mathematics subjects.

“Robert May’s School is a shining example of how to promote and encourage children into these subjects from an early age, especially young women into this career path.”

Teacher Phil Cain said: “It is massively important that local businesses support future generations.

“Influencing children at an early age is crucial because by the time they are 17 to 18 they have already decided on their subjects.

“Thank you to AWE for this donation.”

The five-strong team, along with Mr Cain, will travel to Singapore after taking the overall national prize earlier this year.
