THEY may have looked blue but staff at a Basingstoke supermarket were certainly happy as they found a wacky way to pull in the pounds for a good cause.

Around 30 members of staff from Tesco, at Chineham Shopping Centre, had their hair sprayed blue and had ornate items such as replica butterflies and Christmas baubles put in their locks for the fundraising event in aid of the Diabetes UK charity.

Two hairdressers from The Cutting Bar, who are based at the shopping centre, donated their time to spraying the 30 members of staff who took part in the fundraiser.

The event was held on World Diabetes Day with the charity urging people to “Go Blue for Diabetes”.

And staff at the supermarket in Chineham managed to drum up over £200 in donations from customers on the day.

Julie Shepherd, community champion at Tesco Chineham, told The Gazette: “The customers loved it and were very supportive.”
