NEARLY 2,000 villagers voted in a consultation to indicate where they would like new homes to be built.

A total of 1,911 people, representing approximately 43 per cent of those eligible to take part, stated where they would prefer 150 homes to be built in Oakley.

The results showed that 63 per cent of respondents believe new development should be spread across multiple sites, and 45 per cent of voters said they would like development to take place over as many sites as possible.

The results have been communicated with the land owners of the five sites identified in the options, and it is hoped they will work with the village.

Numbers given to the landowners are 15 dwellings at Andover Road, 25 at Beech Tree, 45 at Park Farm, 35 at Sainfoin Lane and 30 at Oakley Hall.

The homes at Oakley Hall are the only ones that will count towards the 150 allocation in Basingstoke’s emerging local plan.

The Neighbourhood Planning Group will now organise an environmental survey to find out if the numbers will work.

It is hoped that Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council will secure the funding for this to be carried out by consultants.

Once complete, the neighbourhood plan will be submitted to the borough council for review and, if approved, will be used as planning guidance.
