A CONFERENCE will examine how victims of crime are being treated in Hampshire.

The event will be held in Southampton on Wednesday, November 5 by Simon Hayes, Hampshire’s Police and Crime Commissioner.

Those joining him at the conference will include Baroness Newlove, the National Victims Commissioner, Peter Cawood, head of victims’ policy at the Ministry of Justice and Dr Jacki Tapley, principal lecturer in criminology at the University of Portsmouth.

Chief Constable Andy Marsh will also attend.

Mr Hayes said: “For a long time we have spoken about the need to place victims at the heart of the criminal justice system but recent high profile cases where victims have been let down suggest that we are still some way off this being the case.

“This conference will challenge those involved with criminal justice to consider what needs to be done to turn rhetoric into reality so that victims receive the justice they deserve.”

The conference will take place at the Novotel Southampton hotel, between 9am and 1.30pm on Wednesday, November 5.
