THERE was a pur-fect chance for bargain hunters to get their paws on gifts for their family, friends and favourite felines.

More than 100 people turned up to the Basingstoke and District Cats Protection Autumn fair in Tadley.

The annual bazaar is one of the charity’s biggest fundraising events of the year and was held in the Ambrose Allen Centre, in Franklin Avenue.

It raised more than £1,000 for the group which supports a network of foster owners looking after up to 30 stray and abandoned cats in the area.

Volunteers manned stalls selling a variety of cat-related accessories including bedding, treats, collars and grooming products.

There was a selection of scrumptious home-made cakes and biscuits in the bake sale and a raffle and tombola with many prizes up for grabs.

People could also meet some of the animals which need re-homing, while one feline, named Johnny even helped out with the book sales.

Publicity officer Clare Toombes thanked volunteers for making the event a success, and added: “It’s been very busy and we’ve had quite a few people through the doors.

“It’s the countdown to Christmas so there were lots of festive gifts being sold. The money will go towards the upkeep of cats and kittens in our care and for bills for food and treatment they require.”
