OPENING hours are set to double at a Basingstoke post office.

Broadmere post office, based in The Southern Co-operative Store in Broadmere Road, Beggarwood, will have its opening hours increased by 59 hours a week and is also set for a revamp.

The new-look site will offer bill payment, banking, benefits, travel money, local collect, postage, home shopping returns and more between 7am and 10pm, seven days a week.

The branch is currently open from 9am until 5.30pm Mondays to Fridays, 9am until 12.30pm on Saturdays, and is closed on Sundays.

It will close for 24 hours at 1pm on Monday, September 22, for refurbishment works to take place, reopening at the same time the following day.

‘Vibrant’ Area manager Mark Jacobs said: “We know how important post office services are to residents in Basingstoke and we are confident that this vibrant new-style Post office at the heart of the community will be popular.

“The modernisation is part of a major Government investment programme that is enabling us to continue investing in the post office network and to map out a bold growth strategy to the end of the decade.”

Gary Trodd, PO services manager at The Southern Co-operative, said: “The Southern Co-operative is very supportive of the changes as it’s seen as a positive move forward for customers by making the post office’s services more conveniently available whenever our store is open.”
