TWO village halls in Oakley are set to get a makeover after receiving extra cash towards improvement works.

Councillor Cathy Osselton, cabinet member for partnerships at Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council, has approved the release of developer contributions to fund improvement works at Oakley Village Hall and East Oakley Village Hall.

The management committee of Oakley Village Hall will receive £1,500 to fund improvements to the community facility, which includes updating the electric in the hall’s kitchen, work to repair the hall’s car park surface, roof and drains, a steam cleaner for the hall’s floors and the installation of security lights outside the hall entrance.

East Oakley Village Hall will receive £855 to help with their project to paint the inside of the hall.

Jean Freeman, chairman of Oakley Village Hall, told The Gazette: “We are very happy we have got the money. We don’t have any spare money for any improvements – we need all our money just to keep afloat.”

Barbara Wiseman, treasurer of East Oakley Village Hall, added: “It is good to get something back from all the extra housing that is happening in the village. We hope that making the hall look more presentable will benefit all the groups that will use it.”
