Police are appealing for information after a man was assaulted and shot with a suspected BB gun in Basingstoke this morning.

The 28-year-old victim was approached by two men at his car in Stag Hill at around 8.30am.

The two unknown men asked the victim for a lift, and assaulted him when he refused to do so, shooting him in the face and back with what has been described as a BB gun.

The victim was taken to North Hampshire Hospital for treatment however his injuries are not life-threatening.

Hampshire police has given description of the two men and are appealing for witnesses and anyone with information to come forward.

One man is said to be white, around six feet and two inches tall and aged between 25-30 years old. He is of skinny build, a pale complexion and has receding short, jet black hair with a scruffy beard.

He was wearing a black hooded top, with white detail on the sleeves and black tracksuit bottoms.

The other man is described as white, around five feet ten inches tall and also aged between 25-30 years old. He is of stocky build, has a tattoo or mark below his right eye with blonde or ginger hair and a full beard.

He was wearing a green or grey hooded top.

Detective Inspector Lee Colvin said: “This was a nasty assault involving a weapon which could have had far more serious consequences than it did.

“We want to trace those responsible. Were you in Stag Hill this morning? Do you recognise the two men from the descriptions given? Any information you may have could be vital, so please contact us.

“Officers will be in Stag Hill today as part of their enquiries.”
