PEOPLE living in Basingstoke and Deane are being told to be aware of possible fraudulent phone calls from someone impersonating a police officer.

Hampshire Constabulary received a report from an elderly woman, that she had been contacted from someone claiming be a police inspector from New Scotland yard.  

The man went on to say that he had been contacted by her bank security team saying that someone had tried to withdraw a large amount of money.

The woman did not pass over any details and alerted the police of the phone call.

Officers are warning residents not to give out any personal details over the phone, and if they believe they are on a scam phone call to hang up immediately wait a minute then contact the police on 101, or call the Action Fraud team on 0300 123 2040.
