RESIDENTS living in Popley are being reminded not to leave valuable items on display in their vehicles.

Officers carried out a checks on vulnerable vehicles in the area yesterday and found a number of vehicles had left high value items such as sat navs on display.

Residents are warned that leaving such items on display could increase the likelihood of a person’s vehicle being targeted by thieves.

PSCO Christie Norris said: “When you leave your vehicle make sure the doors of your vehicle are locked and the windows and sunroof are shut, no matter how hot the weather is.

“If possible, park your vehicle in a busy area. If you have a garage, use it, and do not leave anything in your vehicle, including the boot. A jacket or coat left behind may be of very little value to you, but a thief may think it has been used to hide a laptop or handbag and will break into your vehicle to find out.”

If you believe your car has been targeted by thieves contact Basingstoke CID on 101.
