A MAN has been assaulted on the Black Dam roundabout after a fellow motorist approached his vehicle and hit in the back of the head.

The police are searching for the driver of a 4x4 who proceeded to attack the driver of a black Mercedes Benz SLK, when both vehicles were heading towards Basingstoke town centre.

When they stopped at a set of traffic lights on the roundabout between 5pm and 5.15pm on Monday, June 27, the driver of the 4x4 vehicle got out of his car and threatened the 34-year-old male driver of the Mercedes car, before hitting him on the back of his head.

When the lights turned green, the man returned to his car, and both cars drove off.

Police are appealing for any information on the driver of the 4x4 who is described as white, aged between 25 and 35 years, of stocky build with light or blonde-coloured hair.

PC Richard Harrison, at Basingstoke police station, said: “Incidents of this type are rare, and as this took place during evening rush hour, we believe other motorists will have seen and remember what happened.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact PC Harrison on 101, quoting 44160239636 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111
